Self-Regulation TimeExhibition: 2024.07.05 – 2024.07.07This exhibition, titled Self-Regulation Time, brings together five artists who each interpret the theme with their own unique styles and stories. In my work, I explore the idea that life, being an incomplete form before death, is a continuous process of fragmentation and reassembly. It is in this ever-shifting space where the mind and body communicate—this, to me, defines the essence of life and the concept of self-regulation.I visualize the inner world as a physical space, painting illusions as though they exist tangibly. Borrowing from Plato's aesthetic theory—that reality is a mere imitation of the ideal—I began to question: if thoughts that operate in reality are born within our minds, then is the mind merely an illusion of an illusion? We are often shaken and hurt by these illusions. In my paintings, flowers symbolize faith. The way flowers bloom and wither by absorbing the rain parallels the direction and form of life itself. To me, flowers represent faith and a kind of personal religion—blossoming amidst the shifting seasons of existence. While preparing for this exhibition, I found myself going through an unexpected but necessary period of self-regulation. I believe that everyone carries a garden within their heart. The thoughts that trouble us are often illusions, and I remind myself to act as a devoted gardener—nurturing the flowers of belief and conviction that bloom in my inner garden.A total of eight works will be on display, including sketches and studies.Although the monsoon season has begun, the rain also offers a quiet opportunity—to pause and reflect inwardly. Me and Myself72.5 × 91 cm, oil on canvasThis work explores the inner landscape of a person navigating a constantly collapsing and reassembling value system. The external “self” and the internal “self” come to see each other as divine—offering answers amid confusion, and forming a sacred dialogue between the visible and the hidden. Pray: To Faith275 × 460 mm, oil on canvasThe flower depicted in this piece symbolizes faith. Its quiet blooming and withering mirrors the primal nature of human existence.Even in the rain, the belief that one can bloom beautifully by drawing nutrients from hardship is expressed here as a kind of spiritual devotion—delivering a message to those who, like the flower, stand vulnerable in the changing seasons of life. Self-Regulation Time320 × 420 mm, oil and oil pastel on canvasThis piece portrays a moment of stillness and reflection within one’s inner garden. It is a depiction of introspection—a quiet surrender to the mind’s depth, where healing and growth quietly take root. Garden of the Mind725 × 530 mm, oil on canvasThis work depicts myself sinking into the chaotic garden of the mind, where various flowers bloom and wither. Here, the flowers symbolize personal values and beliefs—growing, fading, and quietly shaping the emotional landscape within. Inner World605 × 725 mm, oil and color pastel on canvasA portrayal of the inner world in disarray. It reflects the complexity and turbulence of the mind—a space where thoughts clash, shift, and reform beyond the surface.
